Our Farm Program: Growing Respect, Responsibility and Real-World Skills
At Wandin Yallock Primary School, our CARING values are at the heart of everything we do, and Respect is a cornerstone. One of the most exciting ways we bring this to life is through our Farm Program. Here, students learn to care for and respect Australia’s extraordinary flora and fauna, while developing practical skills and a deeper understanding of sustainability.
Under the guidance of our one and only Farmer Jill, students tend to our school gardens, grow their own vegetables, and care for our chickens. They see the full journey of food from soil to plate, using the produce they cultivate in cooking activities, sharing it at lunchtime, and even selling it at our Farm Produce stall to families and the wider community. This hands-on learning fosters responsibility, teamwork, and an appreciation for where food comes from.
Our Farm Program runs weekly across all year levels and connects to a variety of class activities and longer-term projects. Through these experiences, students become active, engaged global citizens, empowered to make a positive difference in their school, community, and the world. At Wandin Yallock, Farm is more than just gardening – it is a place to grow curiosity, compassion, and lifelong skills.
