Our Vision

Established in 1870, Wandin Yallock Primary School is nestled amongst orchards and general farming land in the picturesque Yarra Valley.

At Wandin Yallock, our teaching team and support staff are deeply committed to building strong, positive relationships and delivering purposeful teaching that helps every child feel safe, happy and fully engaged in successful learning. As a School-Wide Positive Behaviour school, we explicitly teach and reinforce the values of respect, responsibility and resilience, creating consistent expectations that make children feel secure and supported. Our approach is further strengthened by the Berry Street Education Model, which guides our trauma-informed, relationship-centred practice and supports students with emotional regulation, wellbeing and readiness for learning.

We continually seek improvement by investing in high-quality professional learning that directly benefits students. Our staff use comprehensive assessment tools, explicit teaching methods and student learning data to inform planning and refine practice. We offer a rich and diverse curriculum including French, Physical Education, Art and a growing focus on STEM, giving students opportunities to explore real-world problem solving, creative thinking and hands-on discovery.

In 2022, we proudly celebrated our 150th birthday (+2), a reminder of our rich history and the importance of honouring the past as we prepare our students for a happy and successful future.

We are proud to offer unique learning opportunities that connect students deeply to their community. Our partnership with the Mont De Lancey Historic Homestead and Education Centre allows students to host visiting schools, develop leadership skills and engage with the authentic local history of our region’s earliest pioneers. Our rural environment, established gardens and school farm provide rich, hands-on learning experiences that strengthen wellbeing, curiosity and connection to place.

Teachers and parents share a strong commitment to promoting our values, knowing that caring, responsible, resilient and respectful children grow from environments that prioritise positive behaviour, wellbeing and early intervention. Restorative Practices are central to how we work with students and families, ensuring interactions are grounded in understanding, dignity and respect.

Our students are fortunate to learn in flexible and beautiful learning studios designed to enhance powerful learning. These modern spaces, completed in 2013 as the final stage of our building works, support collaboration, creativity and a sense of belonging.

Our new building facilities complement the landscape while preserving the charm and character of our much-loved original school.Strong learning partnerships are central to who we are. We are fortunate to enjoy high levels of parent and community support, including a community-funded and constructed stadium that expands opportunities for sport and community events. Our students take full advantage of diverse sporting opportunities and proudly represent our school at zone, regional and state championships.

At the heart of our vision is a commitment to nurturing confident, capable and compassionate young people. With strong values, evidence-based practice and a warm, connected community, Wandin Yallock is a place where students flourish academically, socially and emotionally—a school where learning is meaningful, relationships matter and every child is supported to shine.
