Mini-LIT and MacqLit: Supporting Every Learner to Thrive
At Wandin Yallock Primary School we are committed to giving every child the best possible start in their learning journey. For students in Grades 1 to 6 who require extra support in reading and phonics, we offer Mini LIT and MacqLit, research-based intervention programs designed to strengthen literacy skills and build confidence.
These programs are grounded in strong evidence showing that early and targeted intervention is the most effective way to improve reading outcomes. The sooner students receive structured, explicit support, the more likely they are to develop the foundational skills needed for lifelong learning. Mini LIT and MacqLit focus on essential areas such as phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, and comprehension, giving students the tools to succeed across all areas of the curriculum.
These intervention programs work alongside teacher support in the classroom as part of a collaborative approach. Teachers and intervention staff work together to share strategies, track progress, and ensure that every student receives consistent support across all learning environments.
By providing timely, evidence-informed support in collaboration with classroom teaching, we ensure that students who may have fallen behind have the opportunity to catch up, feel confident in their abilities, and develop a love of reading. Early intervention is not just about addressing challenges, it is about empowering children to reach their full potential.
