Sustainability

Our Sustainability achievements:

Our school is an oasis set among rolling hills, fruit orchards, strawberry farms and paddocks. One of our school’s CARING values is NURTURE. Our students are passionate about caring for our environment and how their actions impact their future.

We are a Resource Smart School and we are working towards modules in the areas of Biodiversity, Waste, Water and Energy. As a whole school, including our Outside school hours care program, all our food waste is collected and either fed to our school chickens, put into our worm farms or emptied into our compost to breakdown and create rich soil for our Farm crops. We have a number of water tanks on site to supply gardens and toilets with water and we have buildings with passive heating and cooling to reduce energy use.

We work hard to reduce our waste by encouraging minimal wrappers and fresh food in lunch boxes, we shred paper for use in the Farm and we reuse or recycle what we can.

We are always looking to improve our gardens to increase plant and animal life. The students have been creating a Nature Play Forest since 2019 by planting Indigenous plants to encourage local birds, insects, other pollinators and lizards. We also have other native gardens including a bush tucker garden as well as an array of fruiting trees and exoctic vegetation planted around the school.

Our sustainability goals:

To install a solar powered system to run the school.
Cardboard waste bin for all excess cardboard.
To encourage more students to ride or walk to school regularly.
