Kinder to Prep Transition
Starting Prep at Wandin Yallock Primary School
Starting Prep is a big milestone—for children and parents alike! At Wandin Yallock Primary, we know that every child approaches this step in their own way, which is why we offer extensive transition sessions to help everyone feel confident and excited about starting school.
During these sessions, children will meet their Prep buddies, explore their new classroom, and begin to get used to daily routines. They’ll also have the chance to meet some of our specialist teachers and even enjoy a picnic in our farm with Farmer Jill, a fun way to become familiar with the school and make new friends!
We also support parents through the transition. There are Parent Information Evenings and Parent Q&A sessions, where you can meet teachers, learn about the curriculum, ask questions, and discover practical ways to support your child at home.
Our transition program allows teachers to see how children interact with others, follow instructions, and use their fine motor skills, while giving parents the opportunity to feel confident about the year ahead.
At Wandin Yallock Primary, our CARING values guide everything we do. In our small, welcoming community, children and families are supported every step of the way, making the move to Prep a positive and joyful experience.
Getting to Know Our New Preps
Before the new school year begins, the Prep teacher visits each feeder Kinder to meet the children one-on-one. This helps the teacher understand your child’s strengths, interests, and learning style, ensuring a smooth and confident start to Prep.
Moving Schools
Whether you are new to the area or exploring a new school for other reasons, we understand that starting somewhere new can feel like a big step for both you and your child. At Wandin Yallock Primary, our small, welcoming school community, guided by our CARING values, is here to make that transition as smooth and positive as possible.
Our dedicated staff, including our Wellbeing Leader and Chaplain, work closely with students and families to help your child feel safe, confident, and connected from day one. Every child’s journey is unique, and we are committed to providing the support, guidance, and encouragement your family needs every step of the way.
