SChool Wide positive behaviour
Building Kind, Confident and Connected Kids
At Wandin Yallock, our School Wide Positive Behaviour model is built on strong evidence showing that children do best when they learn in a predictable, supportive and consistent environment. Schools across Australia and around the world use this approach because research clearly shows that when positive behaviours are taught, encouraged and reinforced, students feel happier, more engaged and more ready to learn. By showing children what successful behaviour looks like and celebrating their positive choices, we help them build confidence, social skills and strong learning habits.
At our school, these ideas come to life through our values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. Teachers take the time to teach these behaviours explicitly and model what they look like in the classroom, in the yard and during specialist subjects. We use shared routines and consistent language so students always know what to expect and who is there to support them. When children make positive choices, we acknowledge it through genuine encouragement, thoughtful feedback and opportunities for them to take on leadership roles. This reinforces the behaviours we want to see and helps students understand the impact of their actions.
One of the strongest findings in behaviour research is that students thrive when schools and families work together. This is something Wandin Yallock is known for. Our community is warm, supportive and deeply connected, and this partnership makes a real difference in how children feel each day. When students see the same values reflected at home and at school, they develop a strong sense of belonging and are more confident in how they approach challenges and relationships.
Our School Wide Positive Behaviour model is not just a system. It is a shared commitment to creating a place where every child feels safe, valued and able to learn. By using practices supported by research and shaped by our caring school community, Wandin Yallock provides an environment where students can grow socially, emotionally and academically, setting them up for success now and into the future.
